With the publication of its first volume, we are pleased to launch the Commentarium: Journal of Humanities Studies (CJHS). This scientific initiative began in March 2025 at the University of Madeira’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities (Portugal). The goal of CJHS is to create a specialised, exclusively online journal in the Humanities that is interdisciplinary in scope and open to contributions that integrate various fields of knowledge. In addition to defining the journal's profile and communication strategy within the scientific community, we have established evaluation criteria and an internal process to manage the flow of submissions, from the initial proposal to the final publication decision. To ensure high standards of rigour and scholarly quality in line with international benchmarks, we have appointed a scientific committee withludes significant representation from outside our institution, many of whom are based abroad. This reflects the cultural and linguistic diversity we aim to achieve, as well as our commitment to gender equality. In this first volume of CJHS, we are publishing two types of contributions: a) Specialised studies that are original and oger relevant insights into their respective fields; b) Critical reviews of works published within the past three years. In line with the standards and criteria for scientific quality set by major international publishers, we aim to maintain a regular annual publication schedule. When the call for papers for CJHS was announced, we planned to publish the first volume in the second half of 2026. However, due to the high number of submissions and the exceptional collaboration from all involved—authors and reviewers alike—we were able to publish the first volume in 2025, which includes six articles and eleven critical reviews. Work on Volume 2 (2026) is already underway. We would like to express our gratitude to the members of the Scientific Committee for their trust in the editorial team; to the reviewers of the submitted works, whose contributions were vital to the volume's rigour and final quality; and to the authors who entrusted us with their research results. We also acknowledge the professional collaboration of the Library's technical stag and the University of Madeira's Communication and Marketing Office during the preparation of the first volume. Finally, we wish to note that CJHS accepts article and review proposals on a rolling basis. We invite you to submit your work.
